Abstract: To propose that “darktom” is the basic unit of darkness. Major databases including National Library of Medicine, PubMedand Cochrane Library were used in the literature search conducted in English. Light and darkness are two extremes in luminous world. Darkness appears to be contained in every sealed hollow object, a default that requires no energy unlike visible light which is a fraction of the electromagnetic spectrum. The luminous world with two competing phenomena: darkness and light, is at mutually exclusive equilibrium in which the presence of one elicits the absence of the other.

Abstract: Obesity is defined by an increase in fat mass. Its prevalence in the diabetic population is unknown. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of obesity in the diabetic population. We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study of adult diabetic patients followed in endocrinology consultation of University Teaching Hospital of Pointe -à- Pitre, Guadeloupe- France during the period from October 2014 to November 2016. The present study comprised of a total of 385 type 2 diabetic subjects whose BMI was measured during the visit to the diabetic consultation. Respondents' height, weight, age and sex of diabetes were taken as the study variable. The prevalence of obesity was 43,40%. The mean age of the patients was 60±10,9 years. The peak; frequency of obesity was between 46 and 55 years. Obesity was significantly common in women (60,5%) than men 39,5%) with a p<0,05. The proportion of obesity in female type 2 diabetes proportion (60,5%) was comparatively higher than male (39,5%). Occupation categories affected were represented by pensioners 18 (10,6%), engineers 19 (10,8%), 25 retired civil servants (14,3%) and 50 housewives (28,6%). Obesity is frequent in the diabetic population in Guadeloupe. It is therefore urgent to implement interventions more at risk to prevent, early detection of weight gain in diabetes.

Abstract: Men’s leading trend in risky sexual practices and non-utilization of screening services has been associated with their perceived risk of sexually transmitted infections. This study assessed the preventive sexual and reproductive health knowledge, perception and practice of men in the southwestern Nigeria. This was a descriptive cross-sectional that used a four-stage sampling technique to select 272 male civil servants still in service and randomly selected across 14 Ministries in Oyo State Secretariat, Ibadan, located in the Southwest of Nigeria. A pre-tested semi-structured self-administered questionnaire, which contained a 18–point knowledge scale, 26–point perception scale and 12–point practice scale were used for data collection and the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Chi-square test at p=0.05. Respondents’ age was 38.0 ± 9.4 years. The respondents’ knowledge was fair but perception and practice of preventive sexual and reproductive health behaviours were poor. There was significant relationship between the age, cadre of the respondents and the knowledge of preventive sexual and reproductive health behaviour but there was no significant relationship between knowledge and perception. Health promotion and education strategies to promote good preventive sexual and reproductive health practices should be designed for the men.

Abstract: Vaccine is a biological preparation that improves immunity to specific diseases. Morbidity and mortality declined where immunization are practiced. Vaccine safety is prime for community, manufacturer, immunization providers and recipient of vaccines. This study aims to contribute to the application of best practices on vaccine safety among nurses. After determining the vaccination safety standards observed, strategies and proposals to improve techniques in vaccination safety through education and training were offered. The quantitative-descriptive method was used. Data were supplied by 100 nurses who were in the Primary Health Care centers in Jazan City KSA. Questionnaire used was patterned from the tool on evaluating vaccination practices contained in the Quality Assurance in Primary Health Care Manual for Nurses in Saudi Arabia. Weighted Mean and Chi- Square test for a one-sample case were used to treat the data obtained. Result of the study showed that nurses’ responses on vaccine safety standards practiced were significant but their responses on routine vaccine practice were not significant. Vaccination safety standards were observed and practiced along resources and structures, procedures in vaccination and immunization session guidelines while knowledge on routine vaccine practice was observed sometimes. Responses of the nurses showed correlation on resources and structures, procedures on vaccination and immunization guidelines but not on knowledge on routine vaccine practice. The strategies and proposals laid down may improve techniques in vaccination safety through education and training.
